Every stone has its own character. Some are known for their strength and brilliance, while others are treasured for their delicate colour, texture, or natural inclusions. Looking after your jewellery properly helps preserve not only the beauty of the stone, but the sentiment and craftsmanship behind the piece.
Gemstones are made to be worn and enjoyed, but they are not indestructible. Everyday exposure to soaps, perfumes, oils, heat, knocks, and chemicals can gradually affect their appearance. With the right care, your stones can remain as striking and meaningful as the day you first wore them.
General Stone Care
A little care goes a long way. We recommend removing gemstone jewellery before exercising, swimming, cleaning, gardening, sleeping, or applying lotions, perfumes, hairspray, or hand sanitiser. Chemicals and repeated impact can dull the surface of some stones or weaken their settings over time.
When cleaning your jewellery at home, use our recommended cleaning products for the best results. Alternatively use a soft, lint-free cloth and, where suitable, a small amount of lukewarm water. Avoid harsh cleaning products, abrasive cloths, boiling water, bleach, and strong detergents. If your piece contains a delicate or porous stone, it is always safer to clean it gently and minimally.
Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box. This prevents harder stones from scratching softer ones, and helps protect metal settings from unnecessary wear.
Caring for your Jewellery
Rings, bracelets, and pieces worn daily naturally experience more contact than occasional jewellery. Engagement rings, signet rings, eternity bands, and gemstone rings should be cleaned gently and checked more often, especially if they are worn during work, travel, or active daily routines.
Even the strongest stones benefit from mindful wear. Removing your jewellery during tasks that involve pressure, impact, or chemicals is one of the simplest ways to protect it.
