About Allum & Sidaway Jewellers in Ringwood
Allum & Sidaway jewellers in Ringwood are located at 47-49 High St, Ringwood, an ancient market town dating back to 1226 in the county of Hampshire, England.Ringwood was given its name because it sits on the rim of the New Forest, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It also lies on the River Avon, on the Avon Valley Path, a 34-mile-long walking route that takes you from the Cathedral city of Salisbury all the way the Christchurch Priory on the South coast. Originally settled by the Anglo-Saxons, Ringwood gained national fame in 1685 when the Duke of Monmouth was imprisoned in Monmouth House on West Street, following his disastrous defeat in the Battle of Sedgemoor. Monmouth was held here until being transferred to London for execution later that year. The 18th century saw the growth of the brewing industry in Ringwood, and in the 19th century, it became famous for its ‘Ringwood’ woollen gloves, and the production of large linen collars and cuffs. Ringwood has held a weekly market since the Middle Ages and it remains an unspoilt town with a mixture of old and new architecture and a delightful selection of shops, restaurants and pubs, with much to explore in the surrounding areas by foot, bicycle or on horseback.
